David Rogers’ stage adaptation of the popular novel by Daniel Keyes gets a unique spin in this production, thanks to Deaf West Theatre’s signature, award-winning combination of American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English that creates a seamless ballet of movement and voice on stage.
Daniel N. Durant stars as intellectually disabled Charlie, whose life changes in unanticipated ways when he undergoes an experiment to increase his IQ to the level of genius. The Los Angeles Times calls it “A pyrotechnical, beautifully signed performance that… establishes Durant as an actor to be reckoned with.”
The Deaf West production has garnered extensive critical acclaim and is playing to sold-out houses.

Flowers for Algernon is directed by Matthew McCray and stars Hillary Baack, Josh Breslow, Daniel N. Durant, Sean Eaton, Karla Gutierrez, Charles Katz, Bruce Katzman, Alek Lev, Sarah Lilly, Crystal Lott, Shanna Sorrells and Melanie H. Vansell.
Performances continue through Nov. 17 on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. ASL Nights are offered every Thursday in Oct.: arrive at 7:30 pm for a ½ hour workshop that teaches signs used in the play.
