In 1970, five once-famous mystery writers are called together to write a t.v. show: the greatest murder mystery of all time. As they involve the audience and apply their individual methods to this endeavor, it soon becomes apparent that art does indeed imitate life as they must solve various murders occurring around them. The writers include a married couple who writes sophisticated murders, a young author of the James Bond school, a retired writer of the hard-hitting detective method, and an aging queen-of-the-logical murder.
