Gilbert and Sullivan's finest opera. "I Have a Song To Sing, Oh!" was turned into a pop hit for Peter, Paul and Mary. A classic tale of love found and love lost, the opera ends in tragedy when Jack Point realizes Elsie Maynard does not love him. This production did use the preferred ending of Jack Point taking his own life. However, much of the comedy Gilbert and Sullivan are known for remains delightfully intact and of the lesser-performed G&S operettas, this work stands out. Indeed, it was one of the Savoy's most popular operas.
