Members of New Orleans Actors Equity Association reprise their popular fundraiser again this year as Divas Take Action: Design & Conquer arrives at The Eiffel Society on Thursday, December 1st, 2011. This is the second year for the popular production which features the talents of nine of the city's top professional musical theatre stars, all performing in specially created fashions by the creme de la creme of New Orleans' couturiers. This year's event benefits the NO/AIDS Task Force.
Taking inspiration from the wealth of design & performance talents our city enjoys, Event Coordinator & co-star Jessie Terrebonne has assembled a stellar cast of award-winning powerhouse entertainers for Divas Take Action: Design & Conquer, including Vatican Lokey, Meredith Long, Amy Alvarez, Leslie Castay, Troi Bechet, Idella Johnson, Wendy Miklovic, Katherine McClain, and Cathie Choppin. Musical direction by Ben Childress. With hair by Paul Mitchell and makeup design by MAC Cosmetics, the evening promises to be a stunning event featuring the designs of Larry Mercier, Cecile Casey-Covert, Shauna Leone, Veronica Russel, Rudy Ellis, and Fay Sirkin-Brown.
Hosting the event are Fox News 8's Design Guru Chet Pourciau, and New Orleans theatre & Carnival icon, the internationally famous Miss Becky Allen, who will be calling the Diva Auction. Each designer has created miniature versions of their designs for the evening and these miniatures, along with a selection of the hot new collectible Big Easy Bears. Audiences may bid on their favorite designs or bear, with the winners announced throughout the evening.
This is the second year of what is planned as an annual event offering support & financial assistance for people in our community who require special assistance. The event is organized & created by members of the New Orleans chapter of Actors Equity Association. The AEA is the prestigious nationwide union for stage professionals. Membership in AEA is considered an indicator of experience and skill. Induction into the AEA requires evidence of a body of qualified work in multiple professional productions. Thanks to the tireless work of John Bostic New Orleans is now a Liason City, which offers NOLA AEA a multitude of benefits, including national publicity for all AEA certified productions & performances, access to master classes & workshops conducted by international talents, production opportunities for high-profile events (like the recent musical event Shine starring Tony & Emmy award-winner Hal Linden,) and greater acceptance of New Orleans talents on regional stages across the country.
