Katrina Krewe launched our anti-litter program, "Kids Against Trash", in 2006, to teach children in local schools how they can contribute to a cleaner New Orleans. The program has targeted over 12,000 children. It consists of a brief introduction, the viewing of a great PSA featuring Deuce McAlister of the New Orleans Saints, Chef Emeril Lagasse, and other local favorites, and the performance of a "Keep it Klean" comedic anti-litter show by local actors. The actors deem the children the "K.A.T. Krewe" (Kids Against Trash Krewe) and swear them in via this anti litter pledge:
New Orleans is our home.
I promise to throw my trash away, and Keep it Klean every day,
I will respect the water and the land, and protect it with my own two hands,
Young or old we need to care, because New Orleans is our home to share.
