Brighton Beach Memoirs centers on Eugene Jerome, a 15-year-old boy from 1937 Brooklyn who is just coming to terms with puberty, girls, the looming threat of World War II, and his extended Jewish family. Through daily journal entries, the aspiring writer begins to understand the hardships of life, the need for family, and the humor in it all
