Deerfield-Windsor School is the only independent school in the Albany area that is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges & Schools as well as the Georgia Accrediting Commission. Deerfield-Windsor is also a member of the College Entrance Examination Board, the Southern Association of Independent Schools, and the Georgia Independent School Association.

Deerfield-Windsor School traces its roots to July 10, 1964, when eight men, led by William T. Bodenhamer, set out to establish a superior college preparatory school in Albany. The name chosen for that school was Deerfield. The school experienced steady growth through its early years and graduated its first class of thirty seniors in 1969.

July 10, 1978, marked the first meeting of the Board of the newly formed Deerfield-Windsor School that came into existence as a result of the merger of Deerfield School and Windsor Park Academy. Today Deerfield-Windsor School is a non-profit private corporation that is directed by a self-perpetuating Board of Trustees.

Deerfield-Windsor School enrolls approximately 850 students annually in grades K4 through graduating senior. The school is split between two campuses:

* The Lower School houses K4 through fifth grade students. The campus covers ten acres and is located at 1733 Beattie Road. In addition to classrooms, this campus holds a library, multiplex, cafeteria, computer lab, music room, softball field, and a playground.
* The Middle/Upper School campus includes classrooms and facilities for sixth through twelfth grade students. It is located at 2500 Nottingham Way. Facilities include a science/media center, guidance office, cafeteria, two gymnasiums, tennis courts, football stadium, soccer field, an all-weather track, and a baseball field.

The Spring Musical is a Deerfield-Windsor tradition and a campus wide event. Each year, this special undertaking showcases the many talents of the students, and the hard work of parents and staff. DWS students in the 6th - 12th grades may audition for a part in the show, with the addition of some Lower School children when needed. Auditions usually take place in December, and performances are conducted at the Albany Municipal Auditorium in April. In addition to acting, students can be involved through set design/construction, costumes, make up, lighting, sound, and publicity.
