Shelley Johnson is originally from Atlanta GA where she attended Mercer University in Macon GA, receiving her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theatre with a double minor is Music and Spanish. In high school, Shelley lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina with her parents for two years, but was able to Graduate from Lakeside HS in Atlanta with her childhood friends on 2003. After attending college in middle Georgia, she moved back to Atlanta and was able to work for theatre companies such as The Horizon Theatre (Apprenticeship), TellTale Theatre, Stone Mountain Park Entertainment ( in association with Dollywood), The Lionheart Theatre Company, Rosewater Theatre, and The Georgia Shakespeare Festival. In 2008, Shelley trained with the Society of American Fight Directors and received her recognition as an Actor Combatant with proficiency in Unarmed, Rapier and Dagger, Broadsword. in 2009, she continued her proficiency testing in Knife and has remained up to date on all her weapons every three years.
In 2009, Shelley moved to Hattiesburg, MS to begin her three year MFA program with University of Southern Mississippi. She was able to study the Samford Meisner Technique, Michael Chekhov Work, The Expressive Actor technique, The Arhur Lessac Vocal Work, and worked closely with her mentors as she tackled her Creative Project as Goneril in King Lear.
Recently, Shelley has moved to New Orleans with her fiancée, Gary Rucker, and has been working closely with Theatre 13's Rivertown Theaters for the Perforiming Arts. She is looking forward to working on her upcoming projects and looks forward to becoming a part of the New Orleans Theatre and Film Community.
