Baritone Christian Elser is a versatile singing actor who has performed roles with such companies as the Chicago Opera Theater, Lyric Opera Cleveland, the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Light Opera Oklahoma, Waukesha Symphony, Chicago City Symphony, Southwest Symphony, and the Jefferson Performing Arts Society in New Orleans. Recent roles have included Charlie Cowell in The Music Man, Vicar Daley in Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Sorcerer, Don Pedro in Barbieri’s Zarsuela, El Barbarillo de Lavapies, Vicar Gedge in Britten’s Albert Herring, Bardolff in Verdi’s Falstaff, and Count Almaviva in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro,Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus, Silvio in I Pagliacci, and Count “Danilo” Danilovich in The Merry Widow. On disc, Christian recorded the role of General von Schwarzburg in Robert Kurka’s The Good Soldier Schweik, with the Chicago Opera Theater (Cedille Records, 2002 – Word Premiere Recording). He has also has performed live in concert on WFMT Chicago’s “Live from Studio One,” and Wisconsin Public Radio’s “Live from the Elvejhem” broadcasts. Christian is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and Northwestern University Schools of Music, and is currently completing his Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of Kansas.
