For many years Jean R. Heid was on the Board of Directors of the Gallery Circle Theater. Jean was highly active in sports and volunteer efforts. She was a volunteer in the Coast Guard during WWII, watching for enemy ships and providing tours to visiting soldiers. After the war, she became a volunteer with Friends of the Cabildo and was recognized as the "oldest tour guide" in the city. Jean ran the volunteer tour desk at the French Quarter police station where she loved meeting tourists from all over the world. One of her great loves was the New Orleans Museum of Art, where she was both a donor and volunteer. She was an avid, record setting sailor, racing for 30 years on Lake Pontchartrain. She was the first female Board Member of the New Orleans Yacht Club. As well, she loved to golf, deep into her eighties, and was runner-up in the Ladies Louisiana State Golf Championship of 1949. Wife of the late Samuel Heid. Survived by her daughter, Ellen Heid Lappa; and son-in-law, Mike Lappa. Grandmother of Dianne Lappa and Beth Miller. Aged 97 years.
