Charles Guajardo passed away in his home with his family by his side on January 12, 2009. Born in Doucett, Texas, in 1937, to Alex & Raphaella Guerrero Guajardo, he was one of nine children. He attended high school at St. Anthony's Dominican High School in Beaumont, Texas. After graduating from Lamar State University in 1959, Chuck attended Louisiana State University, where he obtained his Master of Fine Arts degree. In 1963, Chuck accepted a position at Archbishop Rummel High School where he taught Speech and English for 46 years. At Rummel, not only was he the Chair of the Fine Arts Department, but he also founded the Genesian Players drama club. The club involved students from Archbishop Rummel High School as well as girls from many local schools, including Ursuline Academy, Archbishop Chapelle, Dominican, Mount Carmel and others. "Mr. G" directed over 200 dramas, musicals and comedies, teaching his students every aspect of the theater, from lighting and props to performing center stage. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Anne Kaveski Guajardo, and his daughters and sons-in-law, Rachel & Will Webre and Jessica & Craig Cassioppi. Finally, he is survived by the thousands of students and Genesian Players to whom he dedicated his career, energy, and love. [Published in The Times-Picayune from 1/14/2009 - 1/15/2009.]
