James (Shamus) Stewart Keely died on November 10, 2010. Mr. Keely was born September 3, 1921 in Brooklyn, New York, and was 89 years of age. He was predeceased by his parents James Keely and Elizabeth "Lillie" Stewart. Stewart served in the United States Army Intelligence Division in the European Theatre in World War II. He was a linguist and spoke seven languages fluently. After the war, Mr. Keely established his residence in New Orleans where he worked in the maritime and shipping industry with Strachan Shipping Company, managing cargo vessels. He also taught foreign languages for the Modern Language Institute and was a language translator and interpreter for business and legal entities. Mr. Keely lived in Susex, England for a time. He was an art collector and dealer associated with the Kurt Schón Gallery. Mr. Keely was well known in local theatre circles for his acting ability. In the 1950s he was associated with Gallery Circle Theatre where he performed masterfully in significant theatre productions. Mr. Keely is survived by his cousin Eleanor Sundberg Manning of Englewood, FL, and her granddaughter Bonnie Jean Kelly Robanowitz of New York. Burial will be at sea as requested. [MPC]
