Two Left Feet Productions presents Jason Robert Brown’s ‘Songs for a New World’
NEW ORLEANS, LA – Sweeping its audience through space and time, ‘Songs for a New World ’ gives vibrant voice to the newest generation of musical theatre talents. A young composer of only 25 when he wrote ‘Songs for a New World,’ Jason Robert Brown has been favorable compared to the likes of Stephen Sondheim, Stephen Schwartz, and even Billy Joel. The Philadelphia Inquirer declared Brown as “One of Broadway's smartest and most sophisticated songwriters since Stephen Sondheim” and Bruce Weber of the New York Times recently declared him as “Something of a prodigy.” Describing the song cycle musical, composer Brown says, "It's about one moment. It's about hitting the wall and having to make a choice, or take a stand, or turn around and go back."
Bringing the show to the chic Le Chat Noir is director Frannie Rosenberg and Two Left Feet Productions, the exciting new company that brought the hit musical ‘Back to the 80’s’ to Southern Rep in 2008. “This is the show my generation grew up singing,” says Rosenberg. “And it reaches out to touch musical theatre lovers and non-lovers alike. The themes are universal.” The cast of eight features Lisa Picone (Assassins, The NOLA Project), Katie Coplen (All Shook Up, Le Petit) Meghan Shea (New Orleans Debut), Jeff Springmann (Return to Forbidden Planet, JPAS), Philip Gordon (Cabaret, Le Petit), John Giraud (Jesus Christ Superstar, JPAS), Christopher Bentivegna (Musical of Musicals, Le Chat Noir), and a special appearance by songstress Meredith Long (The Great American Trailer Park Musical, JPAS). The show will begin performances on Friday, March 20 and will play Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 6 through March 29. Tickets are $30 and include a drink credit at the bar.
